North Korea was heavily sanctioned by the UN and even China because of 2 events, a public nuclear test and the public assassination of Kim Jong-nam, Kim Jong in brother using a nerve agent. The sanctions have been lifted during the covid lockdowns and North Korean trade with China is around 2.3 billion and with Russia around 20 billion
