Blaschka models in museums around the world were part of my PhD dissertation. Fun fact: in many collections they're on the priority lists to be rescued in case of a museum emergency!

I died at “didn’t record their process” 🥲 this is why science education is important for everyone, write down every part of the process in pen 😅

Still to this day, other glass artists have tried to mimic this and cannot, no one understands how such granularity was achieved.

I teach specimen preservation and taxidermy at this museum and am friends with the women who run the museum gift shop! Following so that when you work with the glass I can show them what you make!

I remember looking around trying to find the glass flowers. Then I realized I was LOOKING AT THEM. I thought they were actual flowers.

I'd like to also highlight how the modern glass colouring is in the hands of chemists. The fact that these guys knew how to craft the glass AND how to colour it so accurately that it was good enough for science, is truly out of this world.
