@thehotmesshomestead: Let's talk about diatomaceous earth and chickens! This is a topic I've covered in the past, but since I shared recently about treating lice on our chickens, so many people have been telling me to use diatomaceous earth, and I feel like another video about this subject may be helpful! ##Chickens##CrazyChickenLady##Homestead##Homesteading##ChickenCoop##BackyardChickens##farm##Farming##FarmAnimals

I use it and mix it with first Saturday lime then sprinkle in the coop under the bedding. Just as a preventative but not a lot. and only in the spring and fall.

Thank you 😊. You information has truly helped me. On another note, have you ever had a rooster that didn’t like a color. Asking because I noticed you have some red on and today I had on red sweats (don’t judge) 😂 but he hated it and came after me and has never been aggressive before. I just don’t understand

Thank you! I have this discussion with people on the daily. Most people take this handed down advice (which at this point comes across like gospel) but never read the bag for themselves. Respritory, and skin irritation warnings are right on the label! Personally the only thing I use DE for is in my long term storage buckets of dry corn and grains.

I put it down on the ground where they were after I move their run. They’re not in it, but it helps the old ground in my opinion. Or I at least think it does. First rain it’s gone, but I like to sprinkle it all over where they were when I move them.

Lime has as many issues as well as it does from what I have read... Release more ammonia vs diatomaceous earth.. Not sure one is better then the other... Just information I've read from a few articles.

fun fact… I’ve been using it for decades and I’ve never had a chicken struggle with any respiratory issues. So… There’s that.
