@ygygnow: Does anyone have a pest they dislike? If I were a cockroach or an ant, I think I would feel sad, because humans often dislike or even fear me. Many people kill such insects because they are believed to spread diseases. But in Buddhism, these insects are also living, sentient beings, equally worthy of life. There could be many karmic reasons why they are now reborn as pests. I once heard a monk explain that such insects could even be the reincarnation of someone close to us in a previous life — perhaps our parents, family members, or even Buddhas or Guanyin Bodhisattva. Guanyin, out of compassion, could manifest in the animal realm with the intention of helping living beings cultivate. After understanding this, I have become more aware and sensitive about killing pests. Now, if they appear in my house, I simply say a little prayer and ask them to leave.
