@sijoessays: #stitch with @winduplirish (i mixed up based & inspired, and missed that his critique was “inspired by kant” (i think?), point still stands though) + i should clarify im in no means calling OP a pseudo-intellectual, but rather showing a case where a known mediatok creator posits philosphy incorrectly #fyp #mediatok #animanga #philosophy
It’s crazy man lirish has been moving like this for years😭😭😭

"Not only do the authors never mention Kant for any influence" Honestly you really don't need a statement by the authors to analyze a philosophical concept since Art is open to interpretation. I do agree that it's wrong to say that the work is INFLUENCED & BASED by that author & that you need a good structure between the philosophy and the work (Something that most analysis don't have as they just wanna include Philosophical Concepts to make it seem complex). Aint saying nothing about Kant's & Bleach connection since I haven't read Kant

Yes WE mediatok inflate and make pointless and irrelevant connections to pose our media as complex and superior to the normies ✌️

i dont think it’s wrong to draw a loose or tentative connection between a work and a philosophical idea that’s something i often do with my literature class but i do agree they shouldn’t be used to overinflate the complexity of the material

BRUH this has been the biggest pet peeve of mine for so long. People will over analyze media so deeply that is not meant to be deep at all, rather than deal with media that is actually complex and contends with dense subjects. so infuriating.

I think people do this because they want the media they consume to be more in depth then it actually is. You can impart any philosophy or ideology on most any piece of you try hard enough.

Not speaking on OPs application of the philosophy, but authors not explicitly saying “I was inspired by X” doesn’t disclude inspiration, and also of course you can apply philosophical concepts not created for storytelling to storytelling? Like what 😂

Minus :
My biggest problem is how symbolism is pointed to very shallowly in a lot of mediatok posts. They will say “oh x part of the story is actually representative of the buddhist concept of y” but forget that there also needs to be a reason for why that matters, and how it actually improves the story. Any writer can dump visual themes onto everything without those things truly being meaningful. Hideaki Anno admited to it with the imagery of Eva, but Eva at least has fleshed out character writing, direction, etc behind that facade. A lot of other series dont. Or the fact Ive seen shounen kiddos listing of how many themes their main characters represent as if having elements of the most themes is what good writing is.
