As an instructor, re-learning or learning for the first time as an adult is so much hard then when you’re a little kid. Give yourself grace girl. Then add in transitioning from dead broke great lesson horses that fill in the gaps and know their job to a personal horse is tough, but SO worth it. It’ll make you such a great rider and your horse and you will make it to that place of accomplishment and confidence. Don’t compare your journey with anybody else. Ever. It’ll steal the joy. This sport is too expensive and too hard to do that to yourself. Hugs!!!!

If you have a friend or trainer with an older more experienced horse that you could take some lessons on that would be helpful. The older horse will teach you.

My mom and myself are both very experienced horse people and sensitive horses are very challenging even for us who grew up riding. Something I try to remember is that, as an adult especially, you deserve a horse you will have fun on and feel comfortable on.

Your horse is an azteca.. which is quarter horse and Andalusian ..the Andalusian side is a sensitive breed .. take it one day at a time … maybe go back to groundwork with him and connect with him so he can trust you and you can trust him.. go for walks.. I have an azteca and I have the same issues .. my trainer is amazing we don’t always ride we connect in different ways . I’m happy to talk to you ! Trust me you will get there !

I feel you! Started riding at 25, 2 years in bought my first horse, an ottb and had never been on anything other than the lesson horses that know their jobs. Had multiple rides questioning if I made a mistake buying him and struggling to ride a horse who was also learning a new job and feeling like I was going backwards in my own riding by having to work on basics with him. Turns out all of that challenge and basics made me a bette rider and fast forward 1.5 years and a new barn/trainer and we are doing so awesome together and I love him with my whole heart and seeing the progress is so rewarding.

You actually don’t look bad in your video at all! I do agree with others though, I wouldn’t pair an experienced beginner with a sensitive horse. My last few horses have been very sensitive thoroughbreds, and even a lot experienced don’t like riding them because they are sooo sensitive. There’s no shame in saying your current horse isn’t a good fit for you and looking for a more quiet, solid citizen.

Your feelings are valid. Its hard. One day you will be able to look back and see your growth. For now, just feel the feelings and keep going. You got this 💔♥️

This is actually the best part of the sport… you can literally never master it. I know it’s so frustrating and defeating, but just keep going!! It’s so normal to have to completely start over with different horses- stop beating yourself over the little things. I see pros on the wrong diagonal all the time🤣

learning to ride as an adult really puts the "you just there" narrative to rest 😅 it'll get easier. make sure you find a trainer who will install the basics which will set you up for success as you progress. learn it right the first time and a lot of the other stuff will fall right into place!

Make sure you’re getting to sit on some easier lesson horses occasionally! You need time to work on basics without worrying about being on a really sensitive horse and take some pressure off yourself

I've been riding for 13 years, I'm now 18, and had to quit earlier this year. I don't see myself being able to have my own horse until I am 30, and building that muscle back up is going to be hard

thank you for posting this. I've been riding since I was 7, but my mom started as an adult. I never really comprehended some of her difficulties, but now I get it

Girl I started riding at 12, I took lessons for 2 years and then rode on and off owning horses and such my whole life. I’m 35 and started back in lessons about a year ago riding my own horse that I helped train and it’s hard!

Too much horse for your first horse. It's very understandable that your frustrated. You could unintentionally ruin the horse also if he gets super frustrated also.

You’re not alone girl, I’ve cried after and during lessons…. We are so hard on ourselves. My coach told me it takes an average of a year for the horse that you ride to feel like home. Give yourself some grace babe, it’s so much harder when getting back into it as an adult. Cheering you on! 🥰

You're not stupid for crying about it 🥺 learning to ride is frustrating and trying to work out your relationship with a new horse is hard. Your crying tells me that you really care. It will come, it just takes time. Making mistakes is how you learn. Don't give up. You've got this 😊
