@the.truth.doctor: In DBT, the biosocial theory explains how emotions and biology work together. Emotional sensitivity means emotions can start quickly, build with intensity, and stay present for a while before settling. The body and mind are already waiting for an emotion, ready to respond, so when something happens, the reaction can feel immediate and full. This is the second video in my series where I walk through DBT — the theories, the skills, and the processes — to help people who experience emotions the way I do and the way my clients do. Follow along so you don’t miss what’s next ‼️ *Sorry for my delay 🫡 July and August became me opening up another treatment center and transitional house, which I’ll tell you about soon. Videos on that coming shortly. #borderlinepersonalitydisorder #bpd #bpdtok #therapist #therapy #WHOFides #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalHealth #DBT #MentalHealth #emotionalregulation #trauma #psychology #nervoussystem

that's why I isolate - being alone for a while eliminates potential triggers, that's the only way for me to go baseline

im in dbt right now and its so hard to put the skills ive learned to practice when im actually going through an "episode" so I end up continuing through the reaction while knowing I should be able to put the skill to work and its so frustrating

how can someone with heightened sensitivity process the emotion and come down from it in a healthy way so they do achieve that rest period?

I think this would be a great explanation for why it seems to my partner my mood can change quickly from a seemingly small thing but it's actually been a lack of being able to rest and re-regulate between emotional stimuli

THIS IS IT! This is the exact reason why rumination can be destructive to your mental health!!! I’d been seeking to understand the difference between reflection and rumination, and struggled to understand the harm of rumination. Here it is, graphed. Thank you so much

Can you share how to cope with this when you have young children - who can often times be triggering due to their own emotional (age appropriate) immaturity?

my husband's baseline helps me regulate. it's wild. I regulate around him faster. my therapist said it's normal and he probably regulates others. and now I can't unsee it. he absolutely does regulate others.

this reminds me of someone I met who couldn't handle his emotions so he drank alcohol throughout the day thinking it would helping but at the end of the day hell broke lose because of his choices and drunkness. He probably was highly sensitive and didn't know how to cope with it

DBT changed my life. It has been a long process, and it takes time for me to see the progress. Being part of a DBT group helps me a lot because we show each other how one another are growing ❤️
