@devenlg: am i doing too much maximising the congnitive value of my downtime. watching anime vs playing video games, i feel like the latter works my brain out more but hmm #anime #videogame #yap #cognitivefunctions #extra #asian #uktiktok
thats why i have 2 screens ... play games while watching anime/series

Deven....I say this respectfully, you seem very driven- task focused. I appreciate you enjoy aniseed and video games, but what would your reflections be on if you did neither? It's ok to "not do", to "be".🤗

dont play video games if you dont find them fun at the moment, forcing yourself to play bc it feels like it boosts your memory or other thing isnt right, the primary purpose is to have fun, and your brain will learn skills easier while having fun too !

to me it's pretty normal to at least notice the difference in the two, and i dont think its too much either since most people dont get into video games for the first time *specifically* for their cognitive values (?).

I'm having the same issue. Currently I'm trying to do both, like 1 - 2 episodes and then play games.

Recognizable. Usually when I have certain daytime activities that drain my mental battery more over time I tend towards less active leisure and vice versa.

speaking as someone with those hobbies who's lived the PhD life: obviously everyone is different but the key issue for me was how much of my time my thesis (and now job) take up, which puts pressure on the limited downtime. I think you owe yourself both types of pursuit: more cognitively 'valuable' and less. The most important thing is to have a sense of where you're at, to feel yourself, and to not be too strict or overly fixated on which is a better use of time, as you need both. Also, on the anime front, obviously some shows have better writing than others, so a way to tweak the cognitive experience on that front could be a mixture of which show(s) you watch and if you can find someone to discuss it with, which will give you another way to be engaged with it...when that's what's right for you.
