@abu.mxsa: In Islam, “Ghurabāʾ” (الغرباء) literally means “strangers” or “the odd ones out.” It refers to a group of believers who remain steadfast upon the truth, holding firmly to the authentic teachings of Islam, even when the majority around them have strayed from it. The concept comes from a famous hadith of the Prophet ﷺ: “Islam began as something strange, and it will return to being strange just as it began. So glad tidings (ṭūbā) to the strangers.” — Narrated by Muslim (145) In another narration, the Prophet ﷺ was asked, “Who are the strangers?” He replied: “Those who rectify what the people have corrupted of my Sunnah after me.” — Reported by al-Tirmidhī and others Meaning in context: When Islam was first revealed, it was unfamiliar and “strange” to the people of Makkah, as it opposed their norms and challenged their false beliefs. Over time, the religion spread widely. However, the Prophet ﷺ foretold that towards the end of times, the pure and unaltered practice of Islam would again become rare and seen as unusual, with those who adhere to it being looked upon as outsiders. Characteristics of the Ghurabāʾ: • They hold firmly to the Qur’an and Sunnah even when society neglects them. • They strive to reform and correct what has been distorted in religion. • They may face mockery, social isolation, or even persecution because of their faithfulness. • Their strength comes from sincerity to Allah, not from popularity or numbers. Significance: The glad tidings (ṭūbā) mentioned in the hadith is interpreted by scholars as either a tree in Paradise or a promise of eternal happiness for these strangers. This shows the high status Allah grants to those who remain firm upon the truth in times of widespread deviation.
