Marriage was initially about owning another person, not procreation.

Shapiro answered that question brilliantly but you choose to leave it out 😅

The MOST dangerous rhetoric ever is when someone mentions utility of humans for the state. STATE WORKS FOR HUMANS. Never vice versa

So what if a straight couple wants to get married but don’t want or can’t have children?

Simple answer is no. Why? Because you both sacrificed for years to care, provide & nurture your children. “THIS COMES WITH COSTS”. Starting over later in life. Then there are grandchildren to care for and provide for if needed. You don’t sacrifice then start over. That’s why there are divorce protection for women in long term marriages.

Notice Shapiro says “utility to the State”. Not even “God” or “Society”. Only fascists say the State is primary.

By this logic, any straight couple who doesn’t have children (by choice or otherwise) should be viewed the same way since they’re not fulfilling the utilitarian purpose of “marriage”

In this day and age, marriage is just a way of letting the government know that these two unrelated people are now family. weddings are just pinterest parties and yes many are still religious but not all of them are so who cares really...

Marriage was a contract to unite to families and consolidate wealth and power. It did not originate from religion or solely to give tax breaks to people who procreated. Gay people can still raise children.

Basically with his thinking straight couple that don’t make kids shouldn’t get married either, marriage should only be available to parents expecting a baby and divorce if there is a miscarriage. What about parent losing a the only kid they have should they divorce to ? lol he doesn’t make sense 😂

This is also a linguistics issue, in Spanish (some countries) instead of using the word “marriage” they use “union civil” or “civil union” bc they feel that “marriage” has a religious meaning and religion and government are shouldn’t be the same (and yes, gay people can be married through civil union)
