@bestdatefood: Here’s a first look at some of Google’s new glass panels going up on the Thompson Center! . The iconic Loop building is getting a sleek glass-clad makeover. You can already spot the transformation from the intersection of Clark and Lake as the colorful exterior gives way to a modern new look. We spotted this entire section of rounded glass panels now up. . You may recall that Google’s parent company Alphabet bought the Thompson Center back in July of 2022 for $105 million, which was far less than the predicted sale price of $300 million. . According to reports Alphabet is now investing around $280 million to redevelop the property to potentially become its new Google Chicago headquarters. . While the project was initially predicted to be finished in 2026, it sounds like the renovation may not actually wrap until 2027. Details have not yet been announced on how much of the building Google plans to occupy. . What are your first impressions of the Thompson Center’s new modern glass exterior?
So many memories there as a kid in the Thompson center remember eating at the food court going in the elevator

Worked on this building as a Commercial Carpenter. It was originally called State of Illinois Center back in 85. It was quite the building but considered a wasted space. I remember the Iron Workers sliding down the steel beams.

The new panels look nice. I hope the sun reflecting off them won't blind drivers.

As long as it doesn’t leak like the Thompson Center. Also, if they’re still there, the stairs in the center of the lobby need risers. It’s pretty freaky for those with a fear of heights.
