As a retired elementary teacher, a "pretty rug" gets peed & thrown up on. It's a germ breeding ground. Stuff on the walls gets torn up because some kids are not taught respect. Especially at the start of K, you have to teach the kids how to treat materials. Why would we throw our personal $$$ down the toilet? A good teacher KNOWS this. Optics aren't important, a teacher who knows when to introduce things to students is!

The classroom decor comes out of the teachers pocket. Also it’s not their responsibility to decorate it’s to teach. That lady needs to get a grip. Pretty sure planning a curriculum is more important than putting down a rug and wall decor.

Thanks for this!!! My daughter is a first year Kindergarten teacher and she has spent A LOT of money making it a cozy space for the kids. I don't think many realize teachers spend their own money. That lady needs to DO BETTER!!

If you walk into your kid’s classroom and don’t see a lot of decor, go find the teacher’s Amazon wish list. Lots of new teachers without a fund to decorate, so be proactive.
