they also fully blamed the teacher for what happened

Fun fact: The character of Gladys is a direct allegory to the Pied Piper. She lures the town's children away as a punishment for some crime they must have committed. In this case, it's a symbol for gun violence and the school shootings.

It’s not a metaphor for school shooting. The director has said this.

Yeah the big gun did feel a bit out of place. Also the many references to parasites too

It makes sense until you add the witch. Unless she is symbolic for the boomers that won’t allow us to make stricter gun laws?

Honestly, it seems like people assumed itd be about school shootings and are now overcommitting to it because i dont see the correlation AT ALL

It’s about how alcoholism and addiction destroy and isolate you — look at how many addiction scenes there are across the POVs

The added layer is the weaponization of children by their parents. Alex is weaponized by his aunt, but Matthew is weaponized by his father Archer (apt name) who is also a bully!

This is the kind of movie that is just not very good but people who took a couple film classes jus make up explanations to try to make it more than it is. Creating their own hidden meaning and allegories to feel smarter than.

people seem desperate to link this to a school shooting, I don't see it and not every film has to be an allegory for something....

i more so like the idea of addiction and substance abuse, the school shooting aspect is definitely there, but the kids aren’t dead..? theyre alive but different and they might never be themselves again, but they could with support and effort to be better. but i think anyone can get different things from this movie

The gun was kind of a red herring imo & did allow for a nice touch of convenient exposition when Archer goes all “so what are we, some kind of Weapons?”. There are some inconsistencies but I love this movie so much. Probably will remain one of my top horror films of all time.
