Everytime I do a root shadow there’s always a separation between the melt and the rest of the hair toner. I’ve tried everything. Smudging, brushing continuously, not dragging so much

Ok my hairstylist forgot to do a root shadow on my highlights and wants to fix it and add it now but im so scared next time I come for touch ups to the highlights are the roots going to be yellow because of where the bleach would go over the color of the shadow root? Does that make sense ? I’m nervous
