@missclairebenjamin: Handling “intrusive” questions at work👇 We all have different limits on what we feel comfortable sharing, and just because someone is curious doesn’t mean we owe them personal information. Questions like “Do you have a boyfriend or a girlfriend?” might seem friendly to some, but for others they can feel intrusive or inappropriate, especially in a work context. If someone oversteps your boundaries, you don’t have to answer. You can respond calmly and respectfully, then redirect the conversation. You might say: “Thanks for showing an interest, I prefer to keep personal things private.” “I’d love to talk about [X topic] though, shall we talk about that?” This keeps the tone kind but firm, and helps you maintain control of the conversation. It’s not necessarily wrong to ask personal questions, but it is important to read the room and respect when someone sets a boundary. 💬 Have you ever been in a situation like this, on either side? Share your experience & advice in the comments 👀 📌 Please note the advice in this post is general and won’t fit every situation. in real life, when you are in the break that's the moment that they ask you about your life.

Sometimes it’s not the question in itself, but the gut feeling you get that the person is asking with malicious intentions

Can you do a video answering the problem of colleagues showing up to your desk for a long chat while you are swamped with work and they won’t get the hint to go away? Please xx 💗💗❤️

I have been in this situation. And the person asking these questions it seemed like it was more of an interrogation than trying to make conversation. I answered in monotone and gave no further feedback. So I had to say I was a private person and reserved.

your content is really good and it's been super helpful for me learning how to be more professional at uni. I notice your comment sections are often kinda negative so i just wanted to say that you have such a good balance of being empathetic + practical in your tiktoks

Oh I couldn’t work somewhere if people didn’t overshare and know each other really well! 🥰 I do feel like it depends on industry… I’m a school leader and view my colleagues like extended family - our time during the day is very intense and we rely on each other both professionally and emotionally. What are other industries like?

My rule is that if they do not open up first about personal things i will not ask anything. I have been told that i am very cold by other manager colleagues but in my opinion it’s the bare minimum. The employee gets to decide how much they share, as i decide for myself in relationship to my boss.
