Totally agree!! I love to start with the basics and then ask a liiiiittle bit too intrusive questions just to crack someone open and that’s how I know someone is my speed if they’re willing to dive in w me.

A boring one that doesn’t always get boring answers is “what do you do for fun?” That way you can see if they prefer art/sports/indoor/outdoor things and then continue asking “what do you like about that?” “What got you into that?” Etc. I love watching people light up talking about their projects/favorite things 🤭✨

“What’s been keeping you busy lately” is a soft exit from “what do you do from work” and it lets people choose work or personal, and makes it easy to navigate setting where not everyone has the same type of employment. Follow that up with “what do you wish more people knew [about that thing you just told me]?”
