Big tech is high risk, high reward, high cost for that high pay. It’s a hard grind for those who want to have a life outside of work. Truth is, the “highest performing” tech companies do so at the expense of their workforce. I’ve found that a respected, happy, and life-balanced team will always outperform those who have to be on 996. So that’s what I cultivate in my little corner of big tech.

Congratulations on getting out! 💖 It’s been a year since I left - zero regrets!!!Teammates constantly gone on medical leave because they’re so stressed, the expectations to work 996, colleagues who regularly refused to translate work from Mandarin to English even though it’s mandatory, all while being paid less than colleagues at lower levels… nope! I lasted three years and realized I needed to get out with my soul intact.

im a pm intern at tiktok rn and i think i got really lucky with a really great team and nice manager but the hours are actually crazy😭 some of my chinese colleagues were visiting and i was talking to them about work life balance but they genuinely had no concept of it at all and were gagged when i said my friends at other big tech get off work at 5😭😭
