Degrees will only matter for very particular professions that require specialized knowledge, such as Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers, etc. Bachelor of Arts degrees are already worthless

Yea and when people stop getting degree that’s when having a degree will matter. So either way get a degree. Once you get a degree it’s good for a life time and you can always go back to get a masters

I disagree. Making knowledge more accessible doesn’t necessarily mean that people will hone critical thinking skills in the process of obtaining it. The process of study itself is valuable!

I don't think degrees will ever be obsolete. I think the goal is to make higher education so expensive and the the job market so crazy, thay only rich people will be able to get degree s. Having some sort of "higher education" that's just for the gentry is something that goes back hundreds of years. I think degrees have become too available for the masses that the prestige is gone, so they'll make it harder to get one.

Corporations still need to weed out candidates during the hiring process. Yes, a degree isn’t the golden ticket it once was but it’s still a factor in the hiring process.

I’m conflicted because going to college helps hone in critical thinking skills that unfortunately you don’t get in k-12 or technical skills trainings. You’d have to work 10+ years to get equivalent critical thinking skills. I do think there should be more ways to get technical skills training.

Degrees that allow for you to actually have a job in a field that is actually needed (medical teaching social work mental health etc) are necessary- you think all of a sudden all professionals will have no standards lol

I think it might be short sighted to say that cause things always fluctuate. Just because now things are blurry & unsure I wouldn’t say degrees are a write off. A white collar big corp job is gonna just accept anybody then?

A degree never guaranteed income… ever - it is a piece of paper to represent a set of skills. If you don’t demonstrate the standard of those sets of skills - you wont get a job. That simple 🙂

I disagree. I think degrees and higher education will never disappear BUT, the need for degrees in certain industries or jobs will. Some jobs require degrees when they are not needed.

you’re entitled to your opinion. but go down to Wall Street and tell me a degree from a top-tier or major university doesn’t hold weight. a degree will matter for specific industries and companies - students need to adapt and be more careful to their career choices

The market has never been more saturated with degrees! This happened in the 80s. It’s going to go back to the trades, or self-taught in AI, and other fields aside from STEM fields and medicine.
