@detroitscienceguy: Welcome back to another video with the Detroit Science Guy. In Southeast Alaska, a region or Fjord named Tracy’s Arm, there was a recent landslide and tsunami alert due to high seismic activity. This is being classified as a local tsunami which occurred after 5:30 am, on August 10, 2025. The Alaska Earthquake Center monitored a spike in seismic signal activity believed to be correlating to the landslide in Tracy’s Arm Fjord and other local areas. According to the Alaska Earthquake Center, several tens of millions of cubic meters of rock and landform struck the water resulting in 1 ft. high localized waves in the region. These types of events are formed in subduction zones. It can cause mudslides which produce violent hazards to the public and environment. Alaska has Local Tsunamis and Distant Tsunamis. Local Tsunamis can be extremely dangerous and hazardous, so it is fortunate that there were no serious injuries or concerns.
