Corporate masc here - I’m fully myself at work. The key is confidence and being unapologetically real. Not everyone will take it the right way, but don’t make that your problem. Just keep doing your job to your best and move past their stuck azzes.

Corporate masc too- I’m fully me at work. And it’s funny and odd, I’ve noticed I get treated like one of the guys throughout my corporate journey. I’m automatically taken more seriously than compared to my feminine coworkers. Obviously, it often plays in my favor, but it does make me uncomfortable. I am still a woman at the end of the day and I empathize with other women who have to face this sort of workplace discrimination. I could go on and on, but for the most part, being masc has unfortunately given me advantages vs if I was feminine.

I actually feel like I get some male privilege being a masc woman in a corporate setting. I dress for the job I want which is to get all the opportunities mediocre white men get. So button down shirt, chinos, belt, allbirds. Same outfit, different colors/textures.

invest in proper work clothes/women’s suits if appropriate, a lot of mascs ik just throw on men’s clothes/suits even though it’s not tailored to fit them. individuality isn’t valued in corp, the look is unpolished and sadly seems childish like you’re trying to cosplay a businessman

Yknow in tech at least I feel like being more masculine/tomboyish whatever helps you get taken more seriously! That’s why Elizabeth Holmes did her Steve Jobs drag and deep voice. I think more fem gets perceived as frivolous or just there to be a pretty face or something unfortunately. So there’s no winning

I work as an account manager and have meetings with companies CEO, HR, PAYROLL and so forth. Honestly, I feel like when I cut my hair and leaned into my masc appearance I got taken more seriously, but also, I feel like it is a breath of fresh air for the people in the meetings. It doesn’t have to be so serious all the time, like they can relax around me as well.

Fellow engineer! I tend to lean in to my masculine presentation and for convos and networking I try to keep my persona very controlled & confident. Depending on if you’re presenting etc. recognizing what gets you taken seriously can be a bonus. Confidence (= more masculine expression, but curiosity and attentiveness signals willingness to learn which is easier to connect with)

honestly, being the hardest worker in the room. if people know your work is efficient and quality, it’ll shine on top of you being your authentic self

Be competent. Be warm. Be assertive. Dress professionally in whatever gender format you want. Haven’t had any problems and I’m on the far masc end of the spectrum at 5’1” and 120lbs.

nah it's all about being confident and unapologetic. life is too short to worry about making other people comfortable. it also helps to be really good at your job

My experience has been, if I’m gonna be seen as different, I might as well lean in and make those things shine. For ex, I knew dressing masculine & having short hair we’re gonna make me stand out, and choosing to put a lot of effort into having super well fitting, well styled masc business clothes and hair (like you do!) moves ppls perceptions from labeling me as just “different” to something positive. Lean into the stuff you know makes you stand out - you’re confident being different, you’re comfortable on camera, I bet you can public speak! Most of your coworkers are terrified of those those three things, keep doing what you’re already doing! It’s def uncomfy bc it doesn’t feel like I see examples of mascs in tech, so that tells me I need to help normalize it.

Honestly I kinda see it as a strength. Unfortunately a lot of men still think masculine qualities are better in the workforce but that means they sometimes prefer me over some of the other women in the office. And women still like me bc I’m one of them. Win win

Show up to work authentically. Don’t shove yourself into a box just to gain “respect”. Be yourself but with a professional veneer - having a work “persona” helps navigate the in between at work/at home you. I’m a non-binary lesbian and have been playing with my gender presentation. I show up at work visibly queer but still command respect because I’m good at my job. If they’re professional, they’ll look at what you do before who you are. Anyone who makes an issue should be (professionally) called out and dealt with through HR.

Masc in a male dominated field here too. and honestly? I don't give weight to the opinions of people I don't respect. And my coworkers don't have to like me or understand me. At some point, they can't ignore logic and competencey. At my workplace, they got over it, stopped trying to make me "one of the guys" and accepted that I was just going to be me. there's no easy path but you can reach a place of little friction.

Worked in tech for 30 years… just been myself the entire time. It may be different in other tech fields but I’ve always let my skills prove my worth rather than anything else.

authentic self is always the answer. If people act weird, then that just exposes you to who you should and shouldn’t be friends with at work. I’m an early elementary school speech therapist, working w evil spirited white women (that’s where they all work in the Midwest) and being myself has only shown me who’s cool and who isn’t at work lol and I’m not afraid to go to HR/supervisors if someone’s being homophobic oops sorry!

My gf is masculine presenting (doesn’t ID as masc specifically tho), she is fully herself at work and is well liked however we’ve clocked that management and certain men try to undermine her. A male boss has been withholding bonuses and she had an issue where a male coworker was consistently passing off admin work/his work to her despite her technically being above rank. Both could really happen to any woman in her situation however.

Lean into who you are. I lead a team of 90% men. 20+ years older than me. Being you is what will always win people over at the end of the day. It’s going to be uncomfortable and feel strange to do initially but don’t feel forced to be a bro (many of us fall into that). I’ve found just putting up results (similar to being a fem in a male role) is what will ultimately lead to the respect. You don’t have to think of it as being different.

lean into who you are! I’m a masc who works for the gov in Florida and I dress masc af to work haha. It’s a bit intimidating at first but people honestly respect you more when you’re honest with yourself and confident.
