if you have not lived in kc the past few months your 1:1 is gonna be way off. prices for groceries are insane. 1lbs of hamburger is 8$ a bag of chips is 6-8$ now, a stick of deodarant 8$.

Since the $1 US dollar is equal to $1.7 NZ dollar, USA sounds way more expensive in most categories. If you give an estimate salary in each country that will give a better picture.
