Subaru did the right thing with issuing a recall so quickly. They are all about safety and this could have ruined them. Kia/Hyundai not so much.

Ridgelines Are Cool Trucks :
All the people saying Honda & Toyota on impulse are thinking about the pre-2007 version of Honda & Toyota where both automakers had maybe only 1 or 2 proven unreliable models in their entire lineup. Now every single carmaker only has a few proven reliable models in their lineup, the complete REVERSE from where it was pre-2007. I can tell you the only two proven reliable Subaru models post-2025 are the hybrid Crosstrek & hybrid Forester which are proven reliable because they use the same, Largely-unchanged Toyota hybrid system from the 1997 Prius & they lack a chain in the CVT transmission giving them an infinite lifespan with a 1 in 10 million chance of failure before 400,000 miles. Since 2016 the only proven reliable Honda's you can get are the ones with the V6 engine because the 4 cylinder Honda's either have fairly unreliable engines or are applied in unreliable hybrid systems (2023+) or are paired to CVT transmissions (Honda's CVTs thankfully are generally reliable but even so the reliability is completely unpredictable due to their very design) or DCT transmissions (can be reliable but your only option is to replace the whole transmission if it fails with no option to rebuild it), OR they have a turbo

Most new production first generation vehicles are bound to have problems. Second year production models tend to have the issues worked out.

IMO the bigger problem is that people making 30-70k purchase doing such little digging in reliability and not just headlines

a reliable car is when you can go well past 100k with no major issues other than maintenance (brakes, tires, filters) etc
