I used to always put myself down and ruminate about the past, but when I finally accepted and felt my shame and worked to move past it/ do things differently is when I really noticed a change

I'm a therapist, and a quote I use frequently is "you can be comfortable or you can grow, but you can't do both."

If my brain doesn’t care about me being happy, then what part of me is desiring it so much?

I say the same thing basically: 1. Your brains job is to keep you safe, not happy 2. Your brain is like an old dog—it’s hard to teach new tricks so it’ll go straight to the old ones u til you do the work to retrain it. 3. Shame is never a motivator and will never lead to positive, long-term change. 💙💙💙

Wow. I’ve been in therapy since my mid-twenties - talking therapy, group therapy, trauma therapy, yoga, meditation, etc - and I thought hey ho, I’m gonna know all this. But I really appreciated what you say! You’re brilliant in everything you say, and you say it really, really well. You cut through to the deepest truths, and you say it in an empathetic, compassionate way. This was very helpful to me and I really appreciate it. Thank you.

Along with your third quote, something I’ve said to clients is something to the effect of “if talking to yourself that way/thinking that way worked, it would’ve worked by now”

Someone told me that you can’t have family without familiar and that’s why we choose familiar partners like our family. It’s always sat with me now that I am trying to heal as a single mom.

I always tell my clients that our brain loves to fill in the blanks, even if it’s with bullshit bc it can’t stand not knowing something. So we make up shit. Soooo we might as well make up good shit right?!

So intrigued by the nervous system wanting familiarity, I’ve travelled and done adventures for years and know a lot of other travellers who seek out constant newness and the opposite of familiarity- does this mean all our nervous systems are wrecked? Lol x
