thank you this was super educational and informative! i had always wondered why more people don’t go to shelters, i never realized it often wasn’t an option, especially for trans people! i’m really sorry you had to experience that and i really hope one day more resources can be allocated to help people in these situations get back on their feet and feel safe and secure the way ALL humans should 🫂

I've seen all of this myself. This is why I volunteer. Even when I had my 3 month old baby strapped to me I would walk downtown and help out. Once you see how bad it is you can't just walk away. Well, Somehow Trump and his cartel are able to.

I’ve been in 2 shelters, one at the time was inclusive and did help me on my feet but had its own issues (lawsuit now), but the other was overpacked, people hospitalized from black mold in their LUNGS, food made you sick, covid without quarantine, etc… shelters need so much funding, though I’m so thankful I didn’t have to figure out the streets during a winter storm freshly 19

It’s so true. I think you mentioned too, but so many people I know are afraid of being in the shelter even if they could get in (which many can’t there aren’t enough beds everywhere) because there’s so much risk of being assaulted and/or having your things stolen. It’s so much more complex than people know. If they force people into shelters, they’re just turning the shelter into a detention camp. It’s horrifying cruelty and dehumanizing these people society has already vilified
