it's mainly because the furry fandom is older it's been around since the 80s and was mainly based around the anthropomorphic animals of cartoons thus, something like kigs, which is based upon anime and is more of a newer thing, has had less time to evolve

I feel this exact way but with original characters lol furry conventions are filled with people's own ocs most of the time but the same can't be said for anime conventions, so it feels a bit isolating dressing or wearing kigurumi of your own character in those spaces.
