@vuvuceramics: Why do foxes seem like they walked out of a fairytale or a storybook? Foxes are playful, clever, and magical, a unique combination of intelligence and mischief. They represent protection, independence, and good luck. For me, foxes take me back to childhood storybooks and fables - Vuvu Ceramics is actually named after the scientific name of the red fox, Vulpes Vulpes. (Vuvu is pronounced Voo-Voo) And since I get asked about my own name also, Deana Coveney, it’s pronounced DEE-na KUH-venny. Deana is an Old English name meaning a wooded dene or small valley (a perfect hideaway for a little fox) The little fox figurine here is asleep on a leaf, a scene i can imagine in a fairy forest. This ceramic leaf dish is made of stoneware clay that is kiln fired. The leaf is a hydrangea leaf that I press into the clay using a simple rolling pin, capturing the intricate texture of the leaf. I sculpt the fox from the same clay, joining it to the dish while the clay is still soft. The fox becomes one with the leaf dish through the kiln firings. The fox sculpture is painted with orange and black underglazes, then glazed and fired in my electric pottery kiln. In a separate firing, I paint the 22kt gold accent on the edge of the dish. The gold is real gold which is also fired on in the kiln. This video glimpses stages of the art process from the start to the finished piece. #foxart #sculpture #satisfying #pottery
