Islam didn’t start with Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him— it’s the final and complete form of the same message God sent to all prophets. From Adam to Noah to Abraham to Moses to Jesus (peace be upon them all), every prophet called people to worship the One true God alone. Over time, parts of the earlier revelations were altered or lost, so God sent Muhammad ﷺ with the Qur’an as the preserved, final revelation. The fact that Islam came later doesn’t make it false — just like the New Testament came after the Old Testament but Christians still see it as valid. In fact, even the Bible contains prophecies of a prophet who would come after Jesus, such as in Deuteronomy 18:18 (“I will raise up for them a prophet like you from among their brothers…”) and John 16:13 about the “Spirit of Truth” who will guide into all truth — which Muslims believe refers to Muhammad ﷺ. The message of Islam is simply the continuation and completion of God’s unchanging truth: that He is One, without partners.
In John 17:3, Jesus says, “Now this is eternal life: that they know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent.” Here, Jesus clearly identifies the One he is speaking to as “the only true God” and distinguishes himself as someone sent by that God. “only true God” is Allah — the same God worshiped by Abraham, Moses, and all the prophets — and the term “Father” used in parts of the Bible was a metaphor for God’s care and authority, not a literal or Trinitarian identity. The Old Testament believers also worshiped this same one true God without any concept of a Trinity, as in Deuteronomy 6:4: “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.” This means Jesus was affirming the same pure monotheism of the Old Testament — worship of the One God alone — rather than teaching that he and God are one being within a Trinity.
