I'll never understand the motivation. like, you're at MIT, you are smart. just do the actual work.

Wait so you're telling me the ones that are committing fraud and fabricating data aren't the DEI students?

How did they actually find out? If Corning never sued would they have never known?

Watched the whole thing, it’s yet another indictment on academia’s misaligned incentives.

He put as much effort fabricating an entire research project as he would have ACTUALLY completing a research project. Like why do this?

Kudos to the “skeptical computer scientists” reflagging research facts and reporting them to MIT. And for Corning for taking legal action on a too similiar domain.

I watched the whole thing and was hooked about five seconds in. Really sad story actually. I would love to know what the thinking was behind this. Stress? The pressure to be at the top of his studies? It’s insanely ridiculous how far this got!

Remember that movie Shattered Glass with Ryan Philippe I think? Like, just go into creative writing and publish a novel instead of fraud 🤷♀️

Watched the whole thing. The media loves an “unexpected” study finding. Francesca Gino is another good example although her fraud (while still very serious) pales in comparison to this student’s.

it is shocking that the advisors would never verify anything by meeting thr company. even cos they would be potential future donors.

I can't believe how deep the fraud went... I thought it was going to be massaging statistics or altering data, but to fabricate an entire company!!!! 😳

econ is a religion, mostly. it's a religion built off the faith in the valuation of competing currencies. obviously that valuation is mostly backed by military, but there are other underlying factorss too. The entire system is vibes, and both affect the same regions of the human brain. terror management theory makes this make more sense.
