@jessicainskip: #greenscreen I cannot find this comment to reply to for the LIFE OF ME! Someone asked: why is the stock market going up if the economy is in shambles? (I paraphrased) From a data perspective, the economy looks great. There are cracks showing up in the the employment data. But the latest inflation print came in line with expectations. The stock market is NOT the economy. In fact, it used to be considered a forward looking indicator of the economy. I argue that this is now a disconnection. 10 companies make up almost 40% of the index. That’s insane. That’s the AI revolution, not a reflection of the economy. Thanks for listening. Hopefully whoever asked this question gets this answer on their FYP ❤️🔥

It's because they pass the tax cuts for the rich and they're buying back their own stock, enriching themselves and their shareholders and giving nothing back to the people because there's no rules to make them take care of their businesses or their employees. That's why

This is how I think of it. The value of labor tied to economy. The value of assets tied to the stock market.

Run a graph of total corporate profits vs average salaries starting 1980 until now. It’s shocking. Corporate profits skyrocketed while salaries stayed the same.

these companies aren't hiring as much as they used to either. they are spending big on data centers, which also don't create many jobs.

I agree. Also, it’s going to take a while for the layoffs to catch up to the consumer behavior. If people aren’t making money they can’t purchase goods.

the S&P has NEVER been more concentrated, and yup I just learned this last week that they depend on B2B not consumer spending as much as they have historically

So you say disconnected. Do you think the valuations are too high? A correction is coming? The consumer seems pretty good right now and consumption really is the American economy. Love your content…you’re great!
