@moshimoshicrochet: in the early stages of learning how to crochet, i had to frog my entire project because i didn’t know how to count rows and lost track 🫠 i’m forever traumatized 🧍🏻♀️
i always use stitch markers but i take it out after i’ve done the row and put it back in my first stitch

when I first starting using plush yarn I had to put a stitch marker in every stitch for a magic ring cause I couldn't see a damn thing lol

if it’s fluffy yarn or i’m doing it in multiple sittings, absolutely, but if not then they just annoy me to take out every row 😭

The first crochet tutorial I ever watched said that the stitch markers we're completely optional and not necessary and I held that with me through learning. And I was absolutely terrible at learning. i am trying again a few years later. And I got some in a kit, and I can. I was like, hey, I'll go for it.Yeah, they are absolutely not optional for me.

I use a different coloured piece of yarn and wind it back and forth at end of rows - it is easier to remove at the end.

I personally learned how to do an invisible row and while I'm working on it, it's very much not invisible to me and it makes it decently easy to count. can be a bit fiddly to learn but if it works for you it'll save you a lot of stitch markers

I either just count or use string cause you can pull it up as you go instead of taking the stitch marker off and on
