The former US president said he was “about 98% involved” in the selection, rejecting some nominees for being “too woke”. Established in 1978, the Kennedy Centre Honours have traditionally recognised a wide range of artists. Until Trump’s first term, presidents from both major parties traditionally attended the annual ceremony, regardless of political differences with the recipients.
