@themotherofvalor: Activation Day is finally here! A day we've been waiting what seems like forever for. God is SO good. She HEARS! Just wait for round 2 though...it gets better! #cochlearimplant #hearingforthefirsttime #chargesyndrome

KaseyJW :
TBH, the xylophone is a pretty harsh sound to be hearing for the best time.

Cochlear can be a great additional tool but it will never replace the most important piece of her communication and language which should be ASL. Please prioritize ASL more than talking to her. Until she and your immediate family are completely fluent in ASL, pretend that you are all Deaf. Don’t rely on speaking as a fall back. Her entire world will be opened up and full of rich, beautiful culture if you actively seek opportunities to immerse her in Deaf culture. Be around native signers as much as possible! She is going to have an incredible life 🥹🤟🏼

She’s not “hearing” for the first time hun. It’s incredibly painful/shocking. It’s full of static and high pitched sounds. This is sad how you promote it this way.

What about bento? :
She will have noises and sensations and interpret them. But it’s not “hearing”as we experience it. Hope is going to be bilingual with her ASL and find her people

Oh I wanted to rip mine off too! It sounded so weird. 4 weeks later and it’s less painful. All the best in your journey, it’s hard work. My biggest advice is signing is really helpful to support language. X
