@dailycasefiles: On February 9, 2004, 21-year-old nursing student Maura Murray vanished in rural New Hampshire — and her disappearance remains one of the most debated mysteries in true crime. That afternoon, Maura emailed her professors saying there had been a death in her family (there wasn’t) and that she would be gone for a week. She withdrew $280 from an ATM, bought alcohol from a local store, and left her dorm in her black Saturn sedan, telling no one where she was headed. At 7:27 p.m., Maura’s car was found crashed on Route 112 in Haverhill, NH. A nearby bus driver stopped to offer help, but Maura refused, saying she had already called AAA — a call AAA confirmed was never made. By the time police arrived minutes later, she was gone. Her cell phone, bank cards, and belongings have never been used since. Extensive searches of the surrounding woods, rivers, and nearby homes turned up no sign of her. To this day, no one knows if Maura left voluntarily, was met with foul play, or suffered an accident. Over 20 years later, her family is still searching for answers.
