@strong.by.sarah: Yes, alcohol includes wine…. Alcohol & Fat Oxidation: -When you consume alcohol, your body prioritizes metabolizing the alcohol over burning fat. -This can reduce fat oxidation, meaning your body stores more fat instead of using it for energy. Fat Oxidation: -This is the process by which the body breaks down fat for energy. -When fat oxidation is suppressed, the body burns less fat and instead relies more on other energy sources like carbohydrates or alcohol itself. The extent to which fat oxidation is suppressed varies depending on: Age (younger vs. older individuals) Gender (men vs. women) Why Is This Different Across Groups? Metabolic Differences: -Older individuals generally have a slower metabolism and reduced muscle mass, which may lead to greater suppression of fat oxidation when consuming alcohol. -Women naturally have a higher fat percentage and lower alcohol dehydrogenase activity (the enzyme that breaks down alcohol), which might make them more prone to fat oxidation suppressionthan men. Hormonal Differences: -Estrogen and testosterone levels influence metabolism. -Women may experience greater fat storage due to alcohol intake compared to men. Energy Utilization Preferences: -Younger individuals generally have higher metabolic flexibility, meaning their bodies may recover fat oxidation faster after alcohol ingestion compared to older individuals. If you’re over 35, I’m sorry to tell you, but it’s time to give up alcohol (preferably if you’re younger, too). It’s NOT cute and you don’t need it. Comment CALC to understand how much food to eat and when so you can reach your goals without being unraveled by alcohol 😇 Reference: Clinical Nutrition ESPEN Volume 13, June 2016, Pages 46-51 #strongbysarah #alcohol #alcoholfreelifestyle
