Since basically everything is synthetic blend these days, I just always use permanent press except for towels or sheets

i have a really old amazing t shirt with holes from the 80s. it seems to be falling apart now, little pilling coming off . why is it doing it now, after being around from the 80s ? how to wash/clean it after i sweat in it ?
