Today and tomorrow are going to be absolutely amazing. I cannot wait to share with you what I have been blessed to be involved in. This will mark an amazing triumph for the disability community in medical and healthcare, in not only in job opportunities but also medical care and treatment!!! Dress (wheelchair and ambulatory friendly): @Simply Southern People of determination is technically umbrella for issues facing the disabled community, one of them being in medical and hospital educational spinal injuries and disabilities. For those of you that do not know, for two days at Prisma Health Richland, I told all medical staff if something wasn’t right. I don’t know if you would call a nursing intuition or just knowing your body, but I was completely right. It was dismissed for two days.. in those two days I became severely septic, to the point where I was worried and told Ernie that if something wasn’t done, I would end up coding aka someone would end up jumping on my chest to resuscitate me. With a heart rate of 188 and rising, BP 48/nothing, and WBC of 44, my medical people already know what that means. I was rushed to an emergency surgery. Could’ve been prevented if somebody would have listened to me.. but I was pushed off because, it was Labor Day weekend.. imagine that. Not only did this incident occur, but instead of actually addressing the issue of my pain being neurological. I was snowed with Dilaudid that didn’t help, the actual underlying condition of my pain. I was given antidepressants and anti-anxiety medication instead of medication I truly needed, in my chart I asked and completed multiple times. I just want medication that “doesn’t make me sleepy” and it wasn’t until my best friend, Corynne Boyer (an absolutely amazing doctor) came in like a bull in a China shop, and educated/told them exactly what I needed to help with my pain. Once this regimen was started, I was able to be awake for more than an hour at a time in my pain was finally somewhat controlled at this stage. I always wonder what would’ve happened if I wouldn’t have been a nurse at night, if I would’ve just listened to everybody when they said “oh you’re fine. You’re O2 sat 100%” are the resident they told me “ you’re not a medical professional so you wouldn’t understand.” But at the same time I shouldn’t have to worry about this because it shouldn’t have happened in the first place. We have specialties for everything, except for disabilities and handicaps. And with the medical advancement in technology, I’m at a loss to even why I’m even having to advocate for this in the first place! People with disability shouldn’t have to worry about getting some standard care due to a knowledge deficit in the medical community. And as a nurse who has done emergency room (15yrs), ICU(9yrs), home health(1yr), and Rehab/post surgical(2yr) I myself will admit I was clueless on how to care for people with disabilities in the handicaps until I became disabled myself. But I’m turning my adversity into advocacy, and I can’t wait to help bring change to such an overlooked area/issue in the disabled community! 💜🏥🩺⚕️💜 #healthcare #medical #health #nursing #nurse #nursesoftiktok #nursetok #doctor #advance #education #EduTok #educate #learning #accessibility #accessible #accessibilitymatters #disability #disabled #wheelchair #handicap #disabledtiktok #disabilitytiktok #spinalcordinjury #peopleofdetermination #softgirl #shopping #haul #target #mswheelchairamerica #foryoupage #fyp #advocate #adversity #advocacy #nursingschool #foryoupage❤️❤️ #news #new #ada #technology #tech #followme #followmyjourney #follow #mswheelchairsc2025 @Ms Wheelchair America @Board of Nursing
