@faustinoyolo: Replying to @MaRc Integration into a foreign communiy as an immigrant requires more than just showing up and hoping (or expecting) to be accepted.
I am really impressed at how well thought out and authentic your message is in this video. Universities must use this to teach our teenagers about multiculturalism. Thank you 🙏🏾

I agree with you so much. When I lived in Europe, Americans would come to Germany and ask for milk with their dinner, etc., and have a fit if things weren’t just like they were in the United States. You’re in a different country for God sakes. You should respect their culture.

I was born and raised in San Miguel de Allende, Gto. and I assure you that the locals and the dancers wearing masks won’t get offended if you joined them in the dance, in the contrary, it would be an honor if you did.

I would agree the only way I was integrated was when I was in a serious relationship which includes the whole family

One thing that you would have to learn is that those dances are a religious meaning just ask and they will tell you and then San Miguel you don’t need an invite everyone’s welcome to join. That’s the best part of San Miguel and the culture.

Learning to communicate with people in their native language goes a long way in any country one chooses to live in. I attended excellent language school for 10 months there in SM de Allende and was able to easily integrate into the local culture. Also mingled with Americans, Canadians, etc

I get the logic. Makes complete sense from my US background. It is also why my reaction to many newcomers to the US is negative. Right? is it any surprise there is deep resentment of immigrants in the US as well? Lots to unpack... not a pun. We can all give a bit more respect and understanding to others.

Such an intuitive and informed answer. While you were in San Miguel - I went to Playa and Puerti Morelos- I was with a friend who is a Spanish speaker- originally Salvadoreño- she integrated gracefully because of the common language- but the difference in origin even played a factor in her situation. It was a fabulous experience to mingle in the local community - you’re bottom line is true for so many situations- RESPECT- thanks for your message!!!
