@nathanramospark: Native Americans used to weave baskets that you could boil water in. Filipinos used to weave gold. South American peoples used to weave their history and Africans made the first hard drives. What else did we lose to colonization and imperialism?

Hawaiians had resource management down so perfectly that they had an entire season (yes, I mean 4 months) of rest and recreation. Now we’re all working 2 or 3 jobs, living on top of each other, struggling to survive in our own homeland, all while people are telling us to be grateful for tourism and militarism and america 🫠

I always ask bilingual people what language do they think in because that just blows my mind. Now I feel bad because your right thinking in English is a result of colonization 🥺

It’s crazy how people can understand the burning of the library of Alexandria and it’s consequences but not colonization and all that was lost to it.

People still weave baskets like that, but we tease them and say they studied “underwater basket weaving” in college (ps- ALL basket weaving needs to be soaked in water). You can find people to teach you. Everywhere there is a network of people who keep this alive. Our brains are their brains, there are still groups making Pashmina Shawls in the same way as they have for thousands of years. So much of this still exists in small, secret networks around the world. And did you know every single basket you see is still made by hand- machines can’t make them.

They put hot stones into the baskets. It’s very smart. They didn’t need to sit over the flames.

I think about this ALL THE TIME. We could be 500 years ahead but not for colonization and the narcissistic, self-centered, self-serving, underdeveloped, corrupt, inferiority complex ridden jerks who created it and those who (have) supported it. It’s both depressing and, more so to me, infuriating.

Dhaka muslin was a highly sought after fabric around the world. The process of making and weaving it was complex. After colonisation, the cotton plant it was made from went extinct and the art is lost

As a Colombian this is my Roman Empire. I always think of all the different technologies we would have if central and South American didn’t get colonized. Also how different the culture would be. Like think of the floating farm in Mexico or the gold status of Colombia that no one know how they were created without welding. So much technology and information lost just because some people thought they were better than others. 😤

There was a type of silk from Bangladesh that was so thin it could be pulled through the eye of a needle, the art of creating this fabric was lost due to British colonialism 💔
