GET A GOOD bilingual Japanese agent! They will find tons of spots before they go to the listing and even get you into “no foreigner” properties that are secretly flexible. Got into a big 1LDK in Tokyo for 38,000 yen and waived move in fees except for one 👍

I've done both of my apartment hunting by myself using a website that contacted the rental companies. my last apartment at first said no cuz I was a foreigner but it'd been on the market for over 4 months and I offered to give references and they changed their minds
