some if not most prisons have an awards system like you're in kindergarten. you work for ages and get stuff you can exchange for things like extra visitation hours or money etc. They also have nothing better to do than to do sit ups and stuff all day so most prisoners and probably buff

Depends on the prison. Mostly just sit around locked in a dorm with other criminals. Some offer classes. Most make you do hard labor for next to no pay. A lot of states' license plates are made in prisons.
