In 2008, Santana mentioned in Mojo magazine that "Samba Pa Ti" was the first song he could call his own. "Samba Pa Ti came about on a Sunday afternoon in New York City... I opened the window and saw this man on the street, drunk, with a saxophone and a bottle of liquor in his back pocket. I kept looking at him because he was wrestling with himself.
