This has to stem from the gross misinformation people have on the healthcare field. People dont even understand their problems, the root, the process, and people without experience and credentials delegate our tasks and tell us how to heal or treat from the most unrealistic expectations. Patients and families want hope and an answer and they think there is always some kind of solution, sadly, especially with neuro degenerative issues its just not the case. Patients think we are lying for money when its the people above us making them think we can do something we cant do and they take everyones money.

I'm a Respiratory Therapist that worked with SNF patients for several years & I agree with you 100%. The amount of greed is astonishing! Even after 15 years in my field, I'm disgusted with what I see. Needless to say, I left the SNF sector. My heart couldn't take it 💔

I only lasted in my SNF as an SLP for about a year and I couldn’t do it anymore. It just felt wrong and I couldn’t do the “put them on therapy for 5 times a week” just to bill. Loved my patients to death tho 🥺

As a hospital social worker when I needed to coordinate SNF discharges I always tried to talk the family into taking their loved one home!! “You heal better at home.” I said that sentence 45x a day 😳

I worked as a volunteer at one before and the neglect was so blatant. Patients lacked care and employees are underpaid and overworked so I can sympathize with them, but we need a solution. Patients and employees are getting neglected and this goes against everything healthcare should be. We need to treat our healthcare workers better, its the only way patients will receive better treatment.

When I was in highschool I worked in a senior living facility with a rehab attached to it on the dining side of things. I would visit each patient for a short amount of time while delivering meals and it was the most jarring and heartbreaking experience. The CNAs were spread so thin and some of them just didn’t care/were numb to it. Patients would wet the bed simply because nobody could help them to a commode/set up a bedpan. Then they’d have to sit in it for hours waiting for someone to clean them up. I was in shock at the amount of money patients were paying just to be neglected and dehumanized. Patients would cry to me all the time within our short 5 minute interactions. All of this at the “most highly ranked” rehab facility in my area.

100% when i was in my early twenties i started nursing school and got my CNA and started working at both skilled nursing facilities and the rehab unit of the hospital. these units are always so understaffed and they will give you like 20 high needs patients on a regular day. there were some days when we had more because of call offs. and when you start young and like optimistic and your just trying to do your best - the only people that see it are those that will take advantage and everyone else will demean you. it was such an awful experience i knew i didn’t have thick enough skin to do this for years so i dropped out of nursing school
