My best friend growing up was Indian, i never understood the hate. While i was a picky eater and was used to eating Mexican food at home they always tried to make food for me that i could eat and treated me with a lot of respect even though we had very different dynamics. I still remember watching her mom praying and wearing Indian clothing (i don’t know the exact name) and being fascinated by it cause it was so different from my Mexican household. It was different from my culture and that’s what was so cool about it.

I have a hard time being optimistic. The internet is still a really powerful tool for spreading ideology (specifically racism,) and it's palpable in the real world. I think it's sad, but I think through more people meeting Indian people, things will get better. There's always ways things can get better for minorities, and I think similar to Arabic people in the 90s, it is a phase of misinformation and misunderstanding. The US does not have many large Indian communities and are behind on this compared to Canada.
