We have stone circles in Canada made by indigenous people for the same reasons. lines up with solstices and such. The government won't recognize the significance of them or even acknowledge them

I don’t think Stonehenge’s infamy and Nabta Playa’s relative anonymity has anything to do with erasure culture or narrative manipulation. I think it’s just like algorithms or fads we see today. Some people or things go viral and others don’t. Some businesses go global while others never open a second store. It’s random, not intentional. Or, it’s one person’s motivation to sell their own thing, vs another person’s taking what they have for granted or not ever promoting it at all. It’s not McDonalds fault that John’s burger shack isn’t a world wide phenomenon.

I don’t doubt that all things online are connected, but really!? This showed up on my timeline while Ive been listening to the very interesting book: An African History of Africa by Zeinsab Badawei. I am astounded by the things about Africa and its history and people.

Nabta Playa wasn’t “suppressed” — it was buried. Thousands of years of desertification hid it deep under sand in one of the most remote corners of Egypt. Archaeologist Fred Wendorf first identified the site in 1974, but it took government-approved digs through the 1980s to carefully uncover its vast spread. The famous stone circle’s astronomical alignment wasn’t even confirmed until 1990, after years of excavation and study. It only hit public media in the late ’90s and early 2000s because that’s how long it takes to dig, date, and understand a site this big before making big claims. No conspiracy — just sand, time, and science.

Many people don't realize the racism that informs geography education. Atlas and geography texts excluded Egypt from the map of Africa, including it with southwest Asia because an ancient civilization like Egypt subverts the narrative that Africa is inherently primitive.
