The heat’s easing...for now, with some wind and rain instead, but will it last for 40 days? Here are 5 things to know about the weather 1. It’s going to be pretty wet at times, wetter than it has been for quite a while in some parts. On Tuesday rain will push in from the west with parts of North Wales and northwest England likely to see the heaviest rain, 50-60mm is possible in parts. It’s also St Swithun’s Day, and - according to the folklore, whatever the weather is like, it will continue for the next 40 days and 40 nights. Worth bearing in mind though that there’s no statistical evidence to support this claim. 2. Whilst Wednesday will be drier for most, it’ll likely be wet in the far southwest, and more rain will push into western parts later this week. However, despite there being more rain than we’ve seen recently, some eastern areas still won’t have all that much, not enough to help with the hosepipe bans in some regions. 3. With the rain there will also be strong winds. It’s going to be unseasonably windy on Tuesday, gusts of 40 to 50 mph are possible, with the strongest winds for southwestern coasts. 4. The heatwave is now easing, most places will see high ranging from the high teens to perhaps mid-twenties through the middle of the week. We may see heat building in the southeast again towards the end of the week, although its not set to be as hot as it was recently. 5. The Open Golf tees off at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland this week. Rain is expected on Thursday, then a few showers are likely before a potentially wet final day on Sunday. Will the wetter and windier weather this week scupper any of your plans, or are you glad the heat has eased?
