I love the way a yt women can have a history of dating young men, have associates who are Trump supporters, weaponize yt feminism, has a racist fan base and she doesnt get half the rage Beyoncé gets. Love that for them

as a longtime swiftie your take is great BUT i fear a segment of the public will always refuse to understand or appreciate just bc it’s her, not bc of accessibility

so I hate to be that person lol but one thing I’m not looking forward to is if Beyonce drops act three next year, that would be in competition for album of the year in 2027 with this Taylor Swift album. And that’s gonna be the one thing everyone’s talking about.

Umm Midnights came out right before TTPD and included one of her biggest hits, AntiHero….

As a black swiftie, I agree. I LOVED ttpd & put it in my top 3 w/ folklore and reputation but it was definitely for the FANS. If you don’t know the lore, the songs just don’t hit the same. I think she’s coming for the general public with this new one and I’ve been kicking my feet with excitement 🥰

I think it’s because the whole Taylor’s version era was so personal and intimate her fanbase really locked in with her but she got her masters back. That project is over. She has to move back into mainstream

I am the furthest person from a swifty. I can’t relate to her music but back when I was younger, she had some hits! She and I are the same age btw.

I think she never wanted to feel that kind of public hate again and stopped making music for the general public but maybe she feels there’s been enough time and she’s ready to put herself out there

Full agreement. I'm not really a Swifty, but I do enjoy a lot of what she's been doing. That said I've been paying attention to her previous album rollouts and this one feels different. It's gonna join Songs About Jane (nice wall art) as one of the few pop albums I seek out to listen to.

I’m a casual fan. I have not been paying attention to this album, especially bc of the last album. I haven’t loved anything since Folklore/Evermore. But perhaps I’ll check it out

I love the internet. My algorithm sent me your way during GNX release and I learned so much about another fandom that had the passion and Easter eggs and lore that swifties and beyhjve have in common. I wondered if GNX was a different release strategy or if it was just my FYP. Or maybe there’s broader appeal there too.

The fan base is loyal and listens multiple times to understand the song. Which makes it a success all the time. Sometimes you don’t need a wide audience that’s only there for a good time not a long time

I enjoy her music although I wouldn’t really classify myself as a Swiftie (I’m more interested in her fame from an anthropological and sociological standpoint than a stanning standpoint) and I think one of her overall strengths is the ability to go “okay, time for something new, I’m gonna explore XYZ approach now” when she can sense she needs to switch it up.

Great post. Swiftie here, and I feel like the most recent albums have been her developing her art as well as feed for her fans. What will be great is if she can combine her honed metaphorical, polysemical, lyrical storytelling with true pop.

I’m and elder Swifie with Folklore being my gateway drug. I love your perspective and I’m so curious to hear this album. As a 50 year old white woman I know it might not be for me but I’m here for the plot.

This is funny you’re saying this because the other day when I saw her rollout photos I was like “oh, the theme of this album rollout so far is interesting, I’m curious what the sound will be” to a homie and I’ve NEVER once paid any attention to her before this new album. Maybe whatever she’s doing is working if it got somebody like me curious and paying attention to her lol.

I’m an old and a debut swiftie. I’ve always felt TS had her fingers on the pulse of the zeitgeist, but I think she’s missing it on this one. The economy has tanked and people are scared. We need joy, but usually TS is sensitive to what’s going on in the world. Releasing multiple vinyls of the same 12 tracks isn’t the move at this time. She had the opportunity to lead a new trend of less consumerism and being in-touch with the times by releasing one amazing vinyl that spoke to our situation. She’s a billionaire; she doesn’t need the cash from multiple vinyls, multiple CD’s, cassettes, etc. It feels out of touch in a way her other releases haven’t. Take Folklore- we’re in a pandemic, she drops it quietly when we need joy. Perfect. She missed the mark; it feels as though she’s milking her fan base who are already being squeezed by inflation and tariffs. Amazing art has been created during dark times in America, but that art and the artist reflect those times. This doesn’t, and that’s why it doesn’t sit right with me.

People said she was only getting her numbers cause of all the variants so BLONDIE said watch this also this roll out is still swiftie focused but we got different messages the normal person heard new album the fans heard sourdough and the number 49 and 60 with a trophy knocked over means Super Bowl half time show

She basically said so much in her interview. Folklore - TTPD were esocentric. I don’t think long term Swifties will have an issue because this is likely to be the same vibes we got when she worked with Max Martin for Red, 1989 and Reputation. But Taylor has also said that there aren’t just one group of people who consume her the same way. There are plenty of Swifties who don’t care about the lore and the Easter eggs and don’t pay attention to any of that… they just aren’t making videos about those things right now. We’ll hear from them more on October 3rd. :)
