Is it possible to replace your entire Google Drive with a device that fits in one hand? Mostly, yes. It's a ZimaBoard 2. A few hundred dollars, fanless, silent. Two bays take your drives directly, up to 36 terabytes. It uses less power than my router, and the setup is a web page, not a terminal. My entire Obsidian brain syncs to it. I own that now. It isn't sitting in someone else's data centre waiting for a price rise. And it's faster than Google Drive. I'm saying that on a 10 gigabit line. Because Drive was never limited by your connection. Google's own documentation caps you at 750 gigabytes a day. On my line that's about ten minutes of transfer, then I wait 24 hours. Copying to the Zima never touches the internet, so nothing is throttling it. But storage is the boring part. It's a real x86 computer, so my agents run on it at 6 watts, working while my laptop is shut. Here's the honest part though: this replaces the storage, not Drive. I run both. The Zima holds everything. My agents pull what they need, do the work, and drop the finished thing into Drive. So Drive only holds the files someone else actually has to open. That's maybe 2% of my files. I was paying to store the other 98.
