@athomewithbryan: All the twirls: London loves twirling her hair, so much, that I think she doesn’t even know she’s doing it most of the time. Some of you have said it might be due to anxiety (which we looked into) but after several conversations with our little princess, she says she does it because it’s “fun”. Unfortunately, that fun leads to a big tangled nest and sometimes even pulling her hair out if she tugs too hard, which is why we keep her hair up during the day. If anyone has helpful and constructive advice to help overcome this habit, please leave a comment below. #quiettime #girldad #haircare #dadsoftiktok #athomewithbryan

Watching them run up the stairs I remember when you used to have to hold their hands to come down. Getting so big.

My son used to twirl his hair (before he asked for a haircut 😭) and we got him a doll with hair that he could twirl instead! It helped deter him and anytime he wanted to twirl his hair we’d redirect him to twirl his dolls hair and eventually he only twirled the dolls hair and not his own.

My great niece suffered from Trichotillomania when she was little which caused her to twirl her hair and eventually led to her pulling it out. She’s a junior in high school now and no longer struggles with it. I believe they took her to a lot of therapy and she used lots of fidget toys.

For the hair twirling I recommend getting her a fidget toy. Some fidgets that could really help are tangles, wacky tracks, monkey noodles, gootoobz and slug fidgets

She probably likes the feel of it!!!!! I used to do it a lot as a child also. My mom would tell me if I didn't do it she would rub and play with my hair at nap time and it worked really well because I still got that feeling and she rubbed and played with my hair while I fell asleep and with her doing it and not me it didn't get knotted and pulled out.

I just saw this video and I was wondering why are your kids laying on their backs while you are brushing their teeth? Is it easier?

my brother used to twirl his hair and my parents learned it was a factor from his adhd (not sure if you’ve looked into that for her but also not saying she has adhd)

My old nanny kiddo did that to a point where she was pulling it. Redirection is the best way. She had a doll she could twist the hair on instead! I styled her hair daily too. She then gained more confidence to brush it on her own and eventually stopped!

Second on a hair bonnet. Maybe something cute that she picks out so she’s excited to wear it.

I would twirl my hair as a child. My mom gave me fidgets instead. It could just be because she doesn’t have something to do with her hands. Even a wearable fidget is good so she always has it with her like her hair when she needs it .

Not sure if it would be helpful or no, but maybe get her a lil princess brush and she can carry it everytime she wants to twirl her hair she can brush it instead ❤️

I think it’s actually like a way to decompress… I do it at night. I make little twirls all in my hair . I read that it’s like a coping mechanism for adhd .which I have .. (not saying at all she does)

I have a kiddo Londons age in my class who does the same thing, I'm talking knots on knots on knots. Something I've done that has helped a bit is I have found a few different fidget toys that they're able to twirl like the stretchy noodles. I've also showed on an old doll of mine what twirling does and how it hurts her hair. these aren't 100% but have helped a large percentage!

Throwing this out…have you noticed when she twirls her hair, what was she doing before or what is coming up? My son would twirl his hair due to stress, we allowed it, but only with a specific area, his worry curl. He’s 15 now and has all the fidgets.

I had a student twirl her hair so much that it was causing bald spots… I worked with the mom and we just kept putting her hair up in cute styles to avoid it. She eventually stopped because with her hair pulled up all the time she could not do it and so essentially it broke the habit

French braid her hair!! She can “twirl” the braids but if you do them nice and firm they should hold pretty well!

Or get a clip in kids hair extension bit and she can twirl that instead

I'm 36 and I still twirl my hair. I also fidget with anything I can get in my hands to play with from putting a pen cap on and off to jingling with keys or coins. It's just self soothing. 😊

I have no advice, however, my son twirled his hair. it appeared to be a comfort thing for him. he definitely didn't realize he was doing it. he eventually grew out of it...hopefully she will too
