You are missing the symbols. At that time, women had no power. Even the nurses couldn't change the situation because he had done something to make that possible. This was the reality they lived in. Women were often labeled as crazy, even when there were valid reasons for their feelings. Things like this still happen today

He was rich and made donations to the hospital I believe, that's why she has her own room as well. Daisy was also in denial about it too....

I think the abuse had already happened and the behaviour with the chicken was already there and used as an explanation/cover for her general behaviour

He was a man, white, well off. That was enough. Even if the staff wanted to stop it they wouldn’t have been able to. They didn’t have the power to intervene. In a real case a man SAd his mentally disabled daughter (she had the mentally of a 6 yr old) for over a decade and repeatedly got her pregnant. She was in a home for the disabled and he would sign her out for day trips to abort the babies. It took her older sister taking him to court to sue for the SA he inflicted on her as a child to finally put a stop to his rights to visit her. He however remained allowed to have supervised visits but ultimately stopped coming. This happened in my ex’s family and is a horrible part of their history. It was the 1970s-1980s in Canada.

He was a man in power, it was the 60's. Women weren't taken very seriously, and even if they saw something it would be blown off with odd excuses
