Yes, it’s a completely unfair rhetoric that teacher have to be completely “professional” outside of work and that extends to what we wear. Can’t help but wonder if it’s a dated norm bc teachers are historically women…

My best friend is a 24 year old teacher too and she feels this way everytime we leave her place. It’s SO unfair that you’re expected to still be “that teacher” outside of the school.

really wish people would take the time to explain work/leisure attire differences to their children instead of attacking said teachers for not acting like they’re leading a classroom in their free time.

honeslty, growing up everytime i saw a teacher out in public it would make me feel a lot better. actually see them as a person in my day to day life. especially if they made time to talk to me.

My grandmother was a teacher and her students that lived nearby would literally come to her house sometimes?? Uninvited, just come knock on the door 😭

wow, this video makes me realize why sooo many teachers dont work in their actual district/ county. i always wondered why some teachers choose to work so far, but honestly i completely get it now.

if you think about it, parents probably have the same internal reaction if they were to be seen by their kids teacher at a bar. which is also fine because we’re all human🫶🏻

I was a teacher in Hawai’i and I lived in the district that I taught in. I saw my students at the beach, grocery store, in town, EVERYWHERE. It was always normal, nobody cared what I was wearing, sometimes I was literally in my bathing suit at the beach and saw students

I feel this so hard. The normalized sexualization of teachers feeds into the anxiety, too. There are two such extreme perceptions/expectations of teachers and it is so hard to navigate the gray space in between and just be seen as a normal human doing normal human things outside of the school.
